General Questions

No. Men for Missions exists to encourage men to become spiritual leaders in their homes by using their God-given skills on the mission field. Men for Missions is not about the exclusion of women, but rather, it is about the inclusion of men. We send both men and women to the mission field.

Yes. If you give financially to someone going on a short-term team, they will receive an email from One Mission Society that contains the receipt of donation for tax purposes.

Trip Questions

To be considered for a short-term mission trip, you must fill out and submit our application and background check, located here. Upon acceptance, there will be a few more necessary forms to be completed prior to the trip.

For international teams, everything is included, except general costs (food, etc.) during your travel to the field and on your return to the U.S. or any extra costs on-field, like souvenirs and gifts. For domestic teams, everything is included except travel costs, travel days, and any extra costs on-field, like souvenirs and gifts.

By IRS law, MFM is not allowed to give refunds on any donations made to your trip cost. However, you have several options if overpayment happens:

  1. Give to other team members in need of finances
  2. We can receipt out money back to you after your trip for trip-related items (passport cost, vaccines/immunizations, food at the airports, etc.)
  3. Give to abeyance fund (in-house account for overpayments to be used for future trips)
  4. Give to a missionary here at OMS/MFM
  5. Give to an OMS missionary project (Bibles for Cuba, Solar Radios in Haiti or Bethesda Medical Clinic, Bikes for Church Workers, GiveLight, The Juan Project, Bridge to Reading, etc.)

Donations to One Mission Society/Men for Missions must be irrevocable and non-refundable, in order to be tax-deductible. Therefore, donations cannot be refunded or returned if you cannot go on the trip. Any expenses incurred prior to cancelation will need to be covered out of the funds. You will be given an option to do the following with any excess funds:

  1. Give funds to another team member that is in need
  2. Designate for a future trip with us
  3. Give to an OMS missionary
  4. Give to an OMS project

The deposit is due 90 days from your departure date, unless otherwise determined. The final payment is due 14 days from your departure date.

How much money you bring with you is ultimately your decision. But, be wise. We recommend $100.

You will learn more about this process once you have joined the teams. However, we recommend talking with your home church, your family members, your friends, even your coworkers. Many have found great success in sending funding letters (you will learn more about how to construct a funding letter during your team meetings, prior to departure).

Once the team is built, a team sheet that includes MFM contacts for emergencies will be given to you. We recommend making copies and giving these to family members. The on-field missionary will also be given this sheet as a precaution while on-field.
